SMALL-PACK UPDATE: SIMPLIFIED SIZES & MORE SUSTAINABLE PACKAGING

We’ve got an exciting update for our homebrewer community. Our small-pack hop bags are getting a refresh, both in how they’re made and in the sizes we’re offering going forward.

WHAT'S CHANGING WITH SIZES

In the past, we offered small-pack hops in 2oz, 8oz, and 16oz options. Moving forward, we’re simplifying the lineup to two sizes that cover the widest range of homebrewing needs:

  • 4oz: A flexible size that’s not too big or too small. This size is perfect for testing new varieties, brewing one-off seasonals, and big dry-hopping charges without needing to open multiple small packs.
  • 16oz (1 lb): A great option for brewers who want to stock up, brew frequently, or keep a couple favorite varieties on hand for multiple batches. Just like your spice rack, it is always nice to keep some staple hops on hand.

This change helps us offer the lowest prices possible by tightening inventory and running more efficient packaging while still giving you the sizes you reach for most on brewday.

WHAT'S NEW IN THE PACKAGING

The bigger upgrade is the bag itself. Our new small-pack bags are nitrogen-flushed, resealable and made with 50% PCR (post-consumer recycled content). PCR material comes from plastics that have already been used and recycled by consumers, then processed into new packaging. That means less virgin plastic, more circular reuse, and a smaller footprint — making sustainability a part of the package without compromising hop quality. Double-nitrogen flushing our bags is critical to preserving freshness, eliminating oxidation, and extending the shelf-life of your hops.

Hops are sensitive. Oxygen, light, and moisture are the enemies of freshness, which is why packaging is essential for keeping oils, aroma, and acids where they should be from harvest to brewday. These new resealable bags maintain the durability and barrier performance required for quality storage while allowing us to take a meaningful step toward more responsible packaging.

WHY WE'RE MAKING THE CHANGE

This update is about focusing on what works best for homebrewers and for the supply chain behind the scenes. By narrowing our small-pack sizes, we reduce complexity and waste in materials, packaging changeovers, and shipping. It also helps us keep quality and availability more consistent.

Sustainability is not one big switch. It is a series of real, measurable choices that add up over time. Moving small packs to 50% PCR is one of those choices.

A QUICK NOTE FOR CRAFT BREWERS: THE NEW 5LB PACK

While this update is primarily intended for homebrewers, it’s also a good moment to highlight another option we’re excited about. We now offer 5 lb packs for small craft breweries and pilot systems, also featuring 50% PCR material.

If you’re brewing on a smaller commercial setup, running test batches, or want a format that bridges the gap between homebrew sizing and 11lb foils, 5 lb packs can be a practical sweet spot. You get easier handling, less repackaging, and packaging designed to help keep hops fresh.

READY TO BREW?

If you’ve ordered small packs from us before, the transition should be simple. Look for 4oz and 16oz going forward, now in packaging made with 50% PCR. Same commitment to quality with smarter sizes and a more sustainable bag.

Happy brewing from the YVH Crew!
